Tire Flip & Rope Climb Challenge

Paul's Splits:u

10 tire flips and jumps / 10 chest hits the floor push-ups and 5 rope climbs, as many rounds as possible in 30 minutes.

Round 1. 2:24 (I guess still too fast, but it felt very comfortable, and I do think one needs to put some time in the bank here, slowing down to some extent is inevitable.)

Round 2. 2:48

Round 3. 3:13

Round 4. 3:39 (13:11 and half way home, plenty of time to spare.)

Round 5. 3:48

Round 6. 4:27 (the wheels begin to fall off)

Round 7. (Had a missed rope climb, but still a one second build.)

Round 8. (10 flips and jumps 10 pushups and one rope climb, missed again at 29:35, and pulled the plug.)

I felt stronger early, and confident through 5 rounds. I am disappointed since the goal was eight. However, also extremely confident that this was a 100% effort. Did not get off the floor for about 10 mins after this one. I came in better condtioned, 5 lbs. lighter, and with lots of weighted rope climbs under my belt. However, one day of strength and conditioning a week is not enough. 8 Rounds can be done, not so sure about 9. 30 minutes is a long time. So far Ted and Derrick are the only one's to have gotten 6, and Shelley has gotten 5, with the women's rope climb standard. I have a month to think about this one, while all of my training energy will shift to the bike.

One year membership to The Firm to anyone who can get 8 rounds. The first round, and some box jump warmups are on the website.

Good luck!

Paulcan be done, not so sure about 9. 30 minutes

Event Hosted by The Firm Fitness Center

So today was the big tire flip / pushup / rope climb day.

First of all thank you so much to all of you who came today. The energy level was crazy high.

I had my first missed rope climb in 6 months today, and it came on my third climb in round 8. Last time I did this I got 7 rounds in 29:55. Today I got 7 rounds in 27 mins and made it back to the rope with enough time if I could keep climbing. However, we know the rope will crack everyone eventually and it got me. So the quest for 8 ends three rope climbs short. I am a bit disappointed, given the objective was to get 8. However, I am confident that I gave all I had, and it was a step forward.

The round splits were as follows:

Round 1. 2:29 (perhaps a bit too fast, but I felt in control.)

Round 2. 3:01

Round 3. 3:39

Round 4. 4:08

Round 5. 4:08

Round 6. 4:02

Round 7. 4:00

Round 8: 10 flips and jumps / 10 pushups / and 2 rope climbs.

So perhaps the way to go is to settle into 3:30's but I just sort of took what was there. I still believe that 8 is doable. Just was not in the cards for me today. Thanks again for all the support.

Dana went off shortly after, chasing the elusive 4 rounds that no woman has been able to break.

Round 1. 6:00

Round 2. 6:55

Round 3. 9:48

Round 4. 10 flips and jumps / 10 pushups / and 1 climb.

Still a personal best, and a huge effort. Great work Dana.

Justin, from sigep went third. I have so much respect for those that just show up and take at shot at this. Justin had never done a rope climb or a tire flip until today. Way to put yourself out there Justin.

Round 1. 6:13

Round 2. 6:48

Round 3. 7:33

Round 4. 7:16

Round 5. 6 flips

Ted went off last. Ted will be a Gorgo finisher when he decides to go. His strengths are his mastery of strength training technique and the fact that he has no weaknesses. If he does, I have not found them yet.

Round 1. 3:54

Round 2. 4:28

Round 3. 4:13

Round 4. 4:58

Round 5. 5:16

Round 6. 4:25 (He got the fifth touch of the beam in 29:55)

So Ted was the only one to finish his last round today. And 6 rounds was what I got the first time I did this. Great work Mr. Dabbs!

Thanks again, today was a big day for everyone.

How the Challenge was set...

As most of you already know, some of Ryan's sigep guys are entertaining the notion of coming here to take my tire, push-up, rope climb house record from me.

Let me make it very clear that if Brad, Derrick or Ted for instance were to get eight rounds, I can honestly say I would applaud the effort and the fact that I have been a part of their success would be very gratifying. We are all one big family here.

However, allowing someone from the outside to come into our house and raise the bar is totally unacceptable!

So let's review the challenge in question. I created this a few months ago, and am a big fan. Still feel it needs a name, and am open to suggestions.

10 tire flips and jumps, 10 chest hits the floor push-ups, and 5 rope climbs. That is one round, do as many rounds as possible in 30 minutes. So far, I have gotten 7, Derrick has done 6, Mike from sigep got 5 and Marisol and Dana have both gotten 3. The only difference for the women is that they may use their legs on the rope.

So I began my specific prep this morning. I am not sure that eight is possible, seven was rough, and I am rather confident nine cannot be done. However, I want to have one focused period with 8 being the primary objective. Am confident the best anyone can do is tie if that is the standard. I am supposed to be a cyclist right now, but the lure of this one is pulling me back to this world for a bit.

This morning's work consisted of the following:

225 deadlift x 10

chest hits the floor push-ups x 20

10 kb clean and presses in each hand with a 40 lb. kb

5 rope climbs

3 rounds as quickly as possible, I did not time it, but am guessing it took about 20 minutes.

Then for dessert did 50 flips and jumps with the tire for time in 8:27. The 50 is not as bad as it sounds, held back a smidge not knowing what to expect. This can be done faster, as Blair proved a few hours later by doing 50 in 8:40. He was fresh, however he was also outside, which we know is a bit harder.

I feel that I need one more week of prep, so the date is Sun, April 19 at 9:30 a.m. We know greatness is rarely achieved alone, so any support is greatly appreciated.

This one stays here damn it!
